For my son's first birthday party I wanted a train themed party but NOT Thomas the Train. I couldn't stand it and all the party stores I went to only had Thomas the Train; so I did what anyone else would do. I searched on Pinterest.
Now I am not a very crafty person so I gathered all these ideas I found and I got them into motion (though some did not turn out).

Our party was mainly adults so we decided lunch would be best for us. We had the train cars as follows: Center Beam Car (hot dog buns), Log Car (hot dogs), Condiment Carriage (speaks for itself), Hopper Car (chili), Cold Car (cheese), Refrigerator Car (apples and dip), Box Car (chips), French Onion Container (French onion dip), and Quarry Car (sugar for the refreshment). For the refreshments we had Water Tower (water) and Diesel Fuel (tea).
I knew my party goes were not going to be having a lot of dessert so I made cupcakes and had train tracks. As you can see from the picture above, I am not very good at cake decorating which is why I had my smash cake done professionally (see below).
I think they did a pretty good job though for a smash cake, it was pretty hard to smash and my son didn't even want to touch it and got upset when we put his hands into it.
For my party favors I wanted to do Train Smoke (little marshmallows) and Coal (black rice crispy treats). I found a recipe to follow on Pinterest to follow for the rice crispy treats but that just turned into a black mess it dyed everything it touched so we tossed out that but kept the Train Smoke to be picked up at the Baggage Claim.

If you hadn't noticed, we didn't do a lot of décor. I had a hard time finding anything that wasn't Thomas the Train. But I had gone to a craft festival and this cute train that had letters that you linked together to spell out your child's name.
So that was my son's first birthday party. One he will never remember but I will never forget.
